Starry Starry Night Kimono – Toni Gerdes
Description:
Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting, the Starry Starry Night Kimono is the fifth in the Artist’s Kimono series. Combining the view from the asylum where Van Gogh painted while incarcerated, with the artist’s conception of a windy starry night, the serene village is depicted with Cypress trees, stars, moonlight, & the dramatic wind.
Using many silks, wools, cottons, Soy Luster, and touches of metallic bring this scene to life. This intermediate level design will be stitched on white 18ct. canvas with a variety of decorative stitches to create the perspective landscape & whimsical night sky
Students have a choice of stitching the piece in the kimono shape as I did, or in a rectangular shape. The rectangular shape removes the right sleeve & collar and extends the left side to the bottom. You have to make some design choices with the rectangular shape
