Off Balance
Designed and Presented by: Kathleen Brennan
Description: In the 1970’s I wrote a paper on mental illness being ignored in corporate insurance plans. We have come a long way, and mental health is now taken seriously. I hope after stitching Off Balance you will use it as a reminder to pause and reflect on progress and how much more can be done to treat mental health issues.
Off Balance was designed with the feeling one gets when things aren’t right. It is not a symmetrical design, but it incorporates some familiar stitches such as Jessicas, long-armed cross, double-cross and even basketweave. However, there are pitfalls to avoid and a few weird stitches. Shapes are irregular and have sharp edges. Patterns are random. In one corner there is a semicolon which has been adopted as a symbol of suicide awareness.
The models were stitched using stash threads, and two colorways are provided via the link below the photos along with a generic list of thread types which can be used. Recreate the original or use your stash and imagination to stitch this lovely design.
